Limited Series Dragonfly and Bee Plates

 Here is a new creation!  They are the perfect size for dessert or appetizers.

 Each plate is handmade first from a slab of clay, then hand molded.  Next it is fired in a 2000 degree kiln for 8 hours.  Then I glaze the dish and it is fired again to about 1800 degrees for 4 hours.  Next I apply the center decal and hand paint on the design in a 22 K real gold over glaze.  The dish is then fired again to a cone 021 for 9 hours.  Yes there are a lot of steps to create these dishes, but well worth it and at an incredibly low price.

 I have so fallen in love with this Salmon Pink under-glaze!  The bee is wonderful and the gold dots are perfect.  Now, who do you know that would have these.....no one!  You can buy one or all 6 or anything in between on Sunday.  The Special is now over, but you can purchase these plates here https://www.etsy.com

Furry Friday - Week 2 of The Kittens

The week began with a very protective mommy.  If I gazed too long at the kittens, she would just lay on top of them to protect them.   Instinct is so amazing!

I find myself grabbing my iPhone every time I go check on the kittens.  You never know what precious moment you will catch.

By Day 4-5 they are starting to change.  

I somehow messed up my shoulder so I'm up at 4 am hurting.  I came out of the bedroom and there she was....taking a break but refusing to go very far.

I love peeking in to see what they are doing.  This was nap time by day 6.  They just keep me smiling

One thing I notice is that it just makes Mom crazy when her babies cry.  She will gather them up with her paw to quiet them down.....I keep laughing, because have you ever heard of a quiet Siamese?  Poor thing will be pulling her hair out as time goes on.  One kitten takes after her Momma, she has to reach out and touch her too, awwwww

The edges of their ears are starting to turn dark by day 6

This kitten seems to always be off away from the crowd when mom is in the box. 

Kitty always looks so happy.  Motherhood has been very good for her.  She is shedding like crazy as you can tell, the towel is beginning to become furry too.

So by day 7 it is very apparent that we have 3 girls and one boy.  Can you tell my pain pills are affecting my mind at times?  ugh

The eyes are starting to open

I did a little research and found out that a short haired kitten will begin opening eyes at 5-8 days.  Well, we are just so normal then!  Would you believe long haired cats take twice as long to open their eyes?  How weird is that?  Well, by next week's posting, they should really be even more adorable!  They are each starting to get a little fat tummy and the ears are beginning to to pop up.

Furry Friday - The Kittens are here

OK, lets start from the beginning

Kitty (aka Thumbs)  began labor at 1pm

Kitty went into my closet on one of the shelves to have her kittens.  No, no, no.....they will fall and get killed.  So I carried her out and unloaded a box out of the soon to be Library in another room. ( the ugly boxes you see are the library shelves, by the way).   The towel must have been the right thing because she laid down and in thirty minutes the first kitten came.  I will spare you the birthing pictures because they are a bit raw.

 Bella cracked me up.  I think she left after the first kitten was born.  Useless midwife.

Kitty was exhausted after the first one.  She covers her eyes with her paws a lot, so I thought I would take this picture.  Anyone who has gone through childbirth can relate right now.  So, I sat there for 4 hours just watching her sleep....then she got restless and BAM

We had about 30 minutes of down time until BAM

 I was convinced that there were only 2-3 in there, but I was wrong.  We felt her tummy and there was another one squirming in there.  About an hour later, BAM

All four were accounted for.  All white too.  The father is a heavy set Siamese, So it will be fun to watch and see what colors pop out as time goes on.

Kitty is being a great mom.  If she slips away you can tell she is listening for them to make any sound.  If there is a little meow, she darts back inside the box.  She purrs constantly now.  And I caught this picture.   I watch her put her paws around them all the time and she will do a body block over them if your peeking into her box.  Those mother instincts have kicked into high gear.

Thumbs (aka Kitty) is having Kittens!

Last summer, Thumbs traveled from next door

to come and live with us.

She was so cute

We named her thumbs for this obvious reason

she has thumbs!

So, here we are 9 months later.....

and thumbs (aka Kitty) is all grown up

and pregnant!

I thought it would be fun to do a run of posts on this 

exciting event

I am guessing that there are two kittens in there...maybe three.

Due any day now.

Poor thing has that beached whale look in her eyes.

How many of you can relate?  I still remember all three pregnancies of mine and that last month was miserable!

I swear her tummy gets bigger everyday too.

So, once the big event happens, I hope I am home and/or awake

to photograph everything from the start.

Forget puppy breath.....

Learning to Crochet by watching YouTube Videos

I learned how to do this trim by watching videos on YouTube

you would think that after working with my hands all day long created this

That I would kick back and chill.

But oh no

Not happening

I have to be doing something all the time.....

of course now I do it sitting down

I saw a blanket on Pinterest with circles that were made into squares.

Yep, I found the video on YouTube

and I made this

The trim is so fun!  Took me a couple of days this past weekend, but I finished it!

Now I am working on making Granny Circles into squares for another Baby blanket
